China Plans Practical Use of Brain-Computer Interface Technology Within Five Years

China aims to advance brain-computer interface (BCI) technology into practical public use within three to five years, according to Yao Dezhong, Director of the Sichuan Institute of Brain Science. The government has prioritized BCIs in its new five-year plan alongside other strategic sectors. China is conducting over 10 invasive BCI human trials, matching the US, with plans to enroll more patients this year. The national strategy targets major breakthroughs by 2027 and cultivating world-class firms by 2030, supported by advantages like a large population and STEM talent.
