India Becomes World's Second-Largest 5G User with Over 400 Million Subscribers

India has become the world's second-largest 5G subscriber base with over 400 million users, second only to China, according to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Since its 2022 launch, 5G services cover 99.6% of the country with 85% population coverage. As of March 2025, 469,000 5G base stations have been installed. Rural telephone connections grew by 42.9%, outpacing urban growth, while internet connections surpassed 1 billion. India also developed its own 4G stack, upgradable to 5G, supporting technological self-reliance.
