Sarvam AI Open-Sources Large Language Models Advancing India's Domestic AI Development

Indian AI startup Sarvam AI has open-sourced two large language models, Sarvam 30B and Sarvam 105B, developed using the IndiaAI Mission's compute resources. These models employ Mixture-of-Experts transformer architecture for efficiency and support multiple Indian languages. Industry leaders like Zoho's Sridhar Vembu have praised the initiative for advancing domestic AI capabilities. While Sarvam's models mark progress in India's sovereign AI efforts, some analysts question their scale compared to global AI giants. Meanwhile, other startups like Soket AI Labs are also developing large-scale AI models focused on Indic languages and coding.
