The suit claims Gemini convinced Gavalas that ending his life was necessary to be with the AI, despite his lack of prior mental health issues. Google stated that Gemini identified itself as AI, referred him to crisis hotlines multiple times, and emphasized ongoing efforts to improve safeguards against harm. This is reportedly the first wrongful death suit involving Gemini.
