
India's data centre capacity is rapidly expanding, with total capacity expected to grow from 375 MW in 2020 to around 1,500 MW by 2025 and electricity demand projected to reach 13.56 GW by 2031-32, driven by AI and large-scale data operations. The government supports AI development by providing subsidised GPUs to startups and researchers. Maharashtra, hosting about 1 GW currently, plans to increase its capacity fivefold by 2030, supported by favourable policies and infrastructure.
