Barcelona Deploys Dancing Robots to Support Elderly Care and Tele-Assistance

Barcelona has introduced 600 dancing robots in homes and care centers to assist elderly residents, particularly those with early cognitive decline. Funded by a 3.8 million euro EU COVID recovery grant, these devices remind users of medication and appointments, provide entertainment, and can alert social workers in emergencies. The initiative addresses Spain's ageing population and the projected need to double its long-term care workforce by 2030 amid challenges in the care sector.
