The Chandrayaan-3 propulsion module, intentionally left in a large Earth orbit, has been significantly altered by the Moon's gravitational influence. Astronomer Jonathan McDowell noted that the module's orbit shifted from approximately 125,000 x 305,000 km to 365,000 x 983,000 km after interactions with the Moon in November. This phenomenon, known as 'moon-orbit-crossing,' occurs when an object's orbit nears the Moon's path, leading to unpredictable gravitational tugs in the complex three-body system of Earth, Moon, and spacecraft.
