OpenAI has globally introduced an age prediction system on ChatGPT to identify users likely under 18 and apply additional safety measures that limit exposure to sensitive content such as graphic violence, risky challenges, and sexual or violent roleplay. The system analyzes behavioral and account-level signals to estimate age, defaulting to safer settings when uncertain. Users misclassified as minors can verify their age via Persona, a secure identity service. The feature will roll out soon in the EU, aligning with OpenAI's plan to launch an "adult mode" by early 2026, alongside monetization efforts including ads.
