India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued a notice to X (formerly Twitter) regarding the misuse of its AI tool, Grok. The ministry cited serious lapses in statutory due diligence, alleging that Grok is being used to generate and circulate obscene, sexually explicit, and derogatory content, particularly targeting women and children. X has been directed to conduct a comprehensive review of Grok's technical and governance framework, remove all unlawful content, take action against offending users, and submit an Action Taken Report within 72 hours. Failure to comply could result in X losing its safe harbor protections under the IT Act and facing stringent legal action.
