Scientists at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Trombay have successfully isolated and purified curium-242, the heaviest man-made element prepared in India. The process involved irradiating Americium-241 with neutrons and processing the radioactive product. This achievement is significant for studying curium's chemical behavior, aiding in the recovery of its useful isotope curium-244, and potentially for developing compact power sources for remote applications.
