
Professor B Ravindran of IIT Madras has been appointed to the United Nations Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, a global body of 40 experts established by the UN General Assembly in 2025. The panel aims to assess AI's societal, economic, and ethical impacts worldwide. Ravindran, who leads IIT Madras's Centre for Responsible AI and Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, expressed honor in representing India and the Global South. IIT Madras and UN officials highlighted the panel's role in promoting positive AI outcomes globally.
