The briefing, arranged at the request of then Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, highlighted the global reliance on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which produces nearly all advanced chips used by Apple and others. US intelligence officials expressed concern over the economic risks if Taiwan's chip supply were disrupted. Following the briefing, Cook reportedly said he slept "with one eye open," reflecting the seriousness of the threat.
