Bengaluru-based startup Astrobase Space Technologies has unveiled India's first fully integrated 80-tonne-class full-flow staged combustion (FFSC) rocket engine named Everest. Using liquid oxygen and liquid methane, the engine produces about 800 kilonewtons of thrust and employs advanced FFSC technology, previously flown only by SpaceX. Astrobase completed sub-scale tests in 2025 and turbopump trials in early 2026, with full-scale hot-fire tests planned soon at its Andhra Pradesh facility. Founded in 2024 by former ISRO engineer Devakumar Thammisetty and CoinDCX co-founder Neeraj Khandelwal, the company aims to advance India's space propulsion capabilities.
