Tibetan Leader Highlights China's Policies in Tibet and Calls for Democratic Support in Berlin
Tibetan political leader Penpa Tsering criticized China's intensified assimilation policies in Tibet during meetings in Berlin, highlighting restrictions on religious, cultural, and linguistic freedoms, and surveillance measures including facial recognition and DNA collection. He recalled China's 1950 military takeover and the Dalai Lama's exile in 1959. Tsering also opposed China's control over the Dalai Lama's reincarnation and called for cooperation among groups facing pressure from China, including Uyghurs and Hong Kongers, while raising environmental concerns over a hydropower project on the Yarlung Tsangpo River.
