Maharashtra will conduct a social audit of its midday meal scheme covering 4,325 schools, about five percent of the state's total, under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman programme. The audit, funded with Rs 2.42 crore, will assess meal quality, regularity, infrastructure, fund utilization, and related health and hygiene aspects. Schools and agencies must submit documents in advance, with disciplinary action possible for irregularities. The Maharashtra State Society for Social Audit and Transparency will oversee the process, ensuring representation from diverse areas.
