Sahitya Akademi Award-Winning Poet Puviyarasu Dies; Laid to Rest with State Honours
Poet Puviyarasu, a two-time Sahitya Akademi Award winner and founding member of the Vanampadi poetry movement, died on June 30, 2026. He received awards for his Tamil translation of Kazi Nazrul Islam's poems in 2006 and his poetry collection 'Kaiyoppam' in 2009. His funeral with State honours was held in Coimbatore on July 1, attended by government officials, family, and the public. Political leaders M.K. Stalin and P. Shanmugam expressed condolences, acknowledging his impact on Tamil literature.
