Manipur Observes Five-Day Yaoshang Festival with Rituals and Cultural Events

Manipur is celebrating Yaoshang, its major five-day spring festival marked by traditional rituals, cultural performances, and community activities. The festival began with the burning of a straw hut, Yaoshang Mei Thaba, and includes devotional sankirtan music, colour-splashing known as Pichkarinumit, and sporting events initiated by torch rallies. Night-time dances called Thabal Chongba foster social interaction, while rituals like Brajamai at local temples highlight religious observances.
